The Family and Youth Institute (The FYI) is a national research and education institute focusing on Muslim mental health and family wellness. We provide solutions for mental health and family issues impacting Muslim Americans through research and developing data-driven, religiously and culturally appropriate solutions.
We are seeking bright passionate self-starters to join The FYI internship program. During this internship program, you will be able to make an impact on the Muslim American community as well as having the opportunity to learn alongside talented, dedicated professionals in a fun, collaborative, and mission-driven environment. We are committed to making internships as fulfilling as possible and— helping you learn and grow as a professional.
Past interns have developed marketing campaigns, conducted hands-on, in-depth clinical research and data analysis, helped produce academic books and reports, organizational intervention, videos, toolkits, as well as developed meaningful relationships with their team mentor. The FYI is dedicated to making this internship impactful and an important milestone in each intern’s professional development.
The FYI invites exceptional undergraduate and graduate students from diverse educational backgrounds and a strong desire to promote Muslim American mental health and family well-being. Interns must exhibit professionalism and attention to detail, as well as strong teamwork, organizational, and communication skills. The FYI is looking for interns for the following roles:
Marketing Intern – 6 Months to 1 Year Internship
What you will do
Create engaging
social media content
Conduct keyword research to inform search engine optimiza
tion (SEO), Paid Search, and Content Marketing strategies
Utilize data and analytical tools to inform marketing decisions
Conduct keyword research to inform search engine optimization (SEO), Paid Search, and Content Marketing strategies.
Support the team in executing digital campaigns, including paid advertising, email marketing, social media marketing, and more
What you will gain:
Gain valuable experience in developing marketing strategies
Experience in assisting with digital marketing campaigns
Basic graphic design skills
Foundational skills using content management system (CMS)
Copywriting experience for various digital platforms and audiences, plus more!

Research Intern – 1 Year Internship
Gain valuable hands-on experience in research.
Possess foundational research skills (i.e., literature reviews, etc.)
Conduct primary research (focus groups, surveys/questionnaires) and secondary research (i.e., literature reviews)
Utilize strong academic/research writing skills to synthesize and create summaries of findings
Applications must include an academic writing sample.
Resource Development Intern – 6 Months to 1 Year Internship
Create engaging content from primary and secondary research
Synthesize research findings into summaries, articles, infographics, video scripts, etc.
Utilize knowledge of the organization’s overall communication style and brand to ensure consistency in deliverables
Applications must include an academic/professional writing sample.
Racial Equity Resource Development Intern – 6 Months to 1 Year Internship
Research and create resources that bring awareness to and educate the diversity that exists with the Muslim communities
Experience working with diverse communities and knowledge of the needs, strengths and challenges.
Work collaboratively across the organization to apply a race equity lens to policies, recruitment and retention strategies, employee experience, culture, resources developed etc.
Conduct primary (focus groups, surveys/questionnaires) and secondary research (i.e. literature reviews)
Utilize strong academic/research writing skills to synthesize and create summaries of findings
Development Intern (Fundraising)- 1 Year Internship
Assist in donor management using CRM platform
Conduct development research for projects, prospects, and initiatives
Steward donors through strong and responsive communication
Prepare correspondence, reports, proposals and donor appeals
Support organization-wide development effort
Applications must include an academic/professional writing sample.
Grant Writing Intern – 1 Year Internship
Research grant possibilities and determining organizational fit
Create and maintain a Grant Calendar
Utilize strong academic writing skill and assist in writing and submitting grant applications
Draft grant deliverables and reports
Applications must include an academic/professional writing sample.
*Internship positions are part-time, virtual, with flexible hours, and stipend included. The internship begins July 15th. Some internships are for 6 months with an option to renew for 1 year, while others are for a 1 year commitment.
