General FAQ
This audio contest is hosted by The Family & Youth Institute and invites young Muslims in America to share their stories of being young, Muslim, and American. Participants contend for $1800 (USD) in total cash prizes, all while uplifting the voices of young Muslims.
To be eligible to participate in the Audio Contest, you must:

Winners will contend for over $1800 (USD) in total cash prizes, awarded by our panel of judges. Prizes for each category (elementary, middle, high school) are as follows:
- 1st place – $300 (USD)
- 2nd place – $200 (USD)
- 3rd place – $100 (USD)
Submissions for The Audio Contest will open on September 4, 2018 and will close on September 30, 2018.
Once you submit your audio file, you will receive a message that says “Thank You! Your submission has been recorded.”
Winners will be selected and notified by November 1st, 2018.
Submission FAQ
You can record audio on your phone (or your parents’ phone!). You can also use a computer. Just ensure that the audio quality is clear for listeners to understand.
Files can be uploaded directly on our google entry form. Just add the file to your google drive and attach in the appropriate section.
Once you’ve submitted your audio, your submission is considered closed! If you have any urgent changes or questions, you can contact us at youthaudiocontest@thefyi.org.
The file can be up to 1 GB in size.
This is an individual entry contest so we ask that each person enter on their own.
The submission form asks for your name, age, email, grade, and acceptance of a waiver.
Eligibility
Yes! We understand that being homeschooled brings about its own set of unique circumstances and encourage entries to reflect those!
This contest is limited to those currently living in the United States.
This contest is limited to those living in the United States. If you are an international student currently residing in the United States, you may submit an entry provided you will remain in the United States until at least December 31st, 2018.
Other FAQ
As part of our google entry form, each submission includes a waiver. For those under 18, we ask that you complete this form with your parents/guardians.
No, all entries are considered confidential and will not be shared with parents. However, if you are under 18, your parent or guardian must read and accept the waiver form with you.
No, we will use original audio for the video.
Judging Criteria
- Content: Does the clip give the listener a glimpse into your life? Are the experiences real and authentic? Are the experiences fleshed out with details and use of senses so the listener can relate to your story?
- Delivery: Is your audio quality clear? Are words enunciated clearly? Is your tone of voice appropriate for the story? Are you engaging for the audience?
- Time: Is your submission at or near 2 minutes (+/- 15 seconds)?
